So, since everything is pretty much an upfront cost, (shipping my boxes, plane tickets, background check, fingerprints, Sam's Club membership, Alaska winter gear, etc.) I decided to save one box to be shipped in September instead of currently and it is filled with 0 to -40 degree things.
Today my mom and I went to Sam's Club to plan out a grocery list. This is a list of food that will be purchased in Anchorage when I arrive and shipped to my village. The groceries must last until Christmas Break (August 13th-December 19th) because of shipping cost and because food can not be shipped asap... but it takes several days and depending on the weather, can take weeks.
In addition to the food, I am shipping 2 of the largest boxes I could get at the post office and they each weigh about 45 pounds. These boxes will contain my essentials such as clothing and cooking utensils and will be shipped from Van Buren, AR to the village. Each box is labeled and I will be carrying a list with me to the village of the contents in each box. Things to bring include a shower curtain/liner/hooks, clothing, bedding, dishes, cookware, DVD player etc. Furniture is provided as well as large kitchen appliances and a deep freezer! We actually were blessed to get to buy several household items from the principal that is moving. Nichole and I are now the proud owners of a microwave, a TV, and a lamp which are not commonly found in the village.
Nichole is one of my best friends from college and is embarking on this adventure with me! We have known each other for all four years in college. We were in Hospitality as a major together and then both switched to Early Childhood without knowing the other person was doing so! We have been in almost every class together or at least taken it at or around the same time. Also, we were in the same sorority together as well as band! We have a lot in common, our personalities go well together, we like to keep things clean, we are good on a budget, we have never fought, and consequently we get along great!!! Our nicknames are Lewis and Clark :)
